WHAT IS THE EPISCOPAL CURSILLO MINISTRY

“Christ being lived and shared by Christians following the Cursillo Method​ Turning the 4th day into a lifetime process of Spiritual growth.” For the benefit of those who haven’t had the experience, Cursillo is a very moving three-day weekend retreat of an evangelical nature. 15 Talks, 5 Meditations, and worship every day is the core of a Cursillo weekend (to include praise and worship music.) One of the predominant themes from the Cursillo community is that of “Growing Christ-centered leaders.”

WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM

With a Cursillo Weekend Retreat, everything is based on the Episcopal liturgy and the Prayer Book. The Cursillo concludes with the Eucharist, which is the weekend's final event. It is this Eucharist that is the basis of our presentation.

WHO WE ARE

Cursillo Sunday is a small “Start-Up” ministry interested in spreading the Cursillo Method throughout the diocese. We have condensed the primary elements of the Cursillo weekend into a visiting ministry suitable for presentation as a Sunday service.

WHERE WE ARE GOING

With the endorsement of the bishop of the Diocese of Southern Virginia and our secretariat, we have begun a ministry to bring Cursillo to our parishes. Our purpose is to renew interest in Cursillo and our diocese. We believe Cursillo creates a core of Christian leaders who will return to our parishes with renewed faith.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH

Our method is to contact churches in the diocese and offer our services. After meeting with the Rector, we celebrate a Eucharist with Cursillo music and witness talks in place of the sermon. We believe this serves as a good taste of Cursillo. We are available after the service to answer questions, offer encouragement, and pass out written information.

SUCCESS AND ACCEPTANCE

Thus far, we have celebrated the Eucharist with eight churches with positive results. We have planted many seeds that we pray will result in increased attendance to our movement. We would appreciate any consideration your community might give to welcoming our Cursillo Sunday Program to your parish.
