Serve on Secretariat
The Secretariat recognizes itself as the diocesan body with the general responsibility for the life and direction of the Cursillo Movement in the Diocese of Southern Virginia, under the authority of the Diocesan Bishop. As a servant body of leaders, composed of lay persons and clergy, the Secretariat is an instrument and concrete part of the diocesan pastoral plan. All Secretariat members are expected to be active participants of their parish and support the Cursillo Movement in Group Reunions, Ultreyas, and 4th Day gatherings.
Secretariat members serve a three-year term. Positions currently include:
Lay Director
Presides at meetings, prepares agendas, communicates with the office of the Bishop of Diocese of Southern Virginia, and supports the Cursillo Movement in the diocese.
Communications
Provides timely and accurate communication to the Cursillo Community via the local website, Facebook page, and group email. Supports paper communication development as needed.
4th Day Coordinator
Organizes and promotes the larger diocesan-wide gatherings commonly known as 4th Day or Day of Deeper Understanding. Working with the Lay Director to secure a site, the 4th Day Coordinator plans the agenda, secures a speaker, and coordinates with clergy for a service. Typically our Diocese holds 1-2 of these events each calendar year.
Secretary
In addition to keeping the Minutes for Secretariat meetings, our Secretary keeps track of our organization documents and records of our training.
Weekend Coordinator
Is a direct liaison between the weekend’s Lay Rector and Secretariat keeping all informed as the weekend approaches.
Palanca Coordinator
Promotes the definition and understanding of Palanca: Prayers and sacrifices made on behalf of the participants at Cursillo, so that the entire weekend is permeated by prayer. The term is from the Spanish for “lever” or “leverage.” Palanca requests are communicated to the wider Cursillo Community and shared with individuals as much as possible.
Treasurer
Receives, tracks, and accounts for all money received; confirms and pays all invoices; reconciles bank statements; prepares financial reports and makes financial recommendations.
Servant Community Coordinator
Provides support and communication to the Cursillo Community in the Diocese when opportunities arise for service. This includes setup and cleanup for our Weekend Closings and 4th Day Gatherings.
Spiritual Director
Clergy support and guidance for a Cursillo Community is essential for spiritual discernment and growth. Currently we have a priest and a deacon supporting our Diocese of Southern Virginia Cursillo Community.
